Lake House at Lake Margethe, Grayling

1974 - 1985

In 1974 mom and dad acquired the Lake House on Lake Margrethe, Grayling, Michigan from Lillian Hanson. The house was built in 1917 by Esbern and Lillian Hanson as a summer cottage and was part of three summer cottages built by Hanson family members. Tbe Hanson family were very successful in the lumber business in 1800's and early 1900's. The house had been vacant for a number of years owing to the poor health of the Hansons. Furthermore, the house had no kitchen (there was a common kitchen and dinning hall nearby to provide meals for family members and guests). Servants were brought in from Saginaw and were housed in a separate cottage behind the others. In 1985 Marshall and Gail bought the Lake House as it was becoming too much for mom and dad to keep up. From 1985 to 1997 mom and dad continued to spend winters in Sun City, Arizona. They also spent two or three months in Hawaii while living in Sun City.
